Satty Sira's love of bold and expressive colour is manifest in her nude self portraits and landscapes. Her work is autobiographical in that she truly puts herself in her paintings through the use of her own hair and body hair, creating a very real texture on a flat surface of acrylic on canvas or board.
The use of red and gold in the painting ,"All dressed up", is a play on the colour worn by the bride at Indian wedding ceremonies combined with the taboo of nudity and body hair the only self respect is to keep the portraits headless..
The "Running to" series of landscapes is a hidden need to escape and run towards rather than run away.
