Look out for outsize tarantulas in knitted suits, crazy chafers, beetling bugs and huge insects on the prowl!. Fortunately these mechanical creatures are displayed in glass tanks and cages; walking, scuttling and stamping around obsticles, they hunt their prey and react to thier own environments. Some respond to light, others chase each other or feed themselves and, waving their sensitive feelers, explore their surroundings. Pamina Stewart, with the help of a grant from West Midlands Arts, has investigatd the characteristics needed by mechanical objects for humans to attribute them with animal behaiour and shows an alternative viewpoint very different from that of the human experience. The antics of these robotic beasts will entertain adults and children alike.
