'Out of Seasons' shows a football fan whose chants and gestures attempts to upstage the bird chorus in a forest. Whether human or animal, both songs are as combative, territorial and self-defining as each other. In this work, coates' analogy between human and animal 'art' runs against the grain of the supposed culture-nature divide and leaves us to question out understanding of what is to be human
