Dave Phillips was a founder member of LSA in 1997 and became the first Chairman, for a period of two years. He is now Reviews editor and Hon.Treasurer. Dave spent three years part time in an art school, before becoming a student of Anthony Blunt's at the Courtauld Institute of Art, having studied Law previously. His interests are far ranging but ultimately home in on the Modern Period and contemporary art in particular, especially that which is not necessarily mainstream.
As an art theorist and historian his life has been spent in art schools around the country, helping to build up slide collections and art libraries when such facilities were virtually non-existent. He hopes that when LSA is more fully established with a firm base that such could be part of the facilities for members, although the slide collection would be of members work, and the new web-site is a step in that direction.
'I am pleased that so many talented artists are members of LSA and that the organisation has been prepared to help young and aspiring artists by example to think of themselves as part of an artistic community, however loosely that association might be. LSA has achieved many things in the past 5 years, the establishment of studios for artists needing them, a periodical that connects artists to each other has been achieved, and a website for LSA has reached fruition. An HQ where artists and their devotees could meet for professional and social exchanges could be the next stage in the development of LSA'
