Ann Power's work is abstract and is both an exploration of process - wet paint into wet paint - and a focus on the continuous line and the gap between one area and the next. The medium used ranges from high gloss household paint to watercolour and charcoal. A particular influence is the work of the American Abstract Expressionists. The seductive use of gloss paint by Ian Davenport has also been an attraction.

In 2001 Power worked on a series of sixteen drawings in charcoal, titled 'Fracture'. The focus in this work is on the void, bounded by highly textured structures. These negative spaces reflect the Zeitgeist, anticipating Martin Creed's comment, 'Nothing is really something'.

The power of the negative - the Barnett Newman 'zip'- has been a particular concern in Power's recent work and will be an area of further exploration.
