Iris Bertz : Artist
Fugitive Pieces, 2002

"Fugitive Pieces, 2002"

Two Person Exhibition, Schranne, Giengen, Germany
Medium : Willow

Iris Bertz' objects are woven from brown untreated willow. In contrast to the material with which they are made, the objects/sculptures seem light and delicate, almost like filigree. This tension is inherent in the creation process, which shapes the flexible yet resistant material into the intended form. The contrast between visual lightness and actual solidity is also reflected in the mental association of boats with the abstracted form.
Christiane Worth, Art Historian
